Observation, Assessment and Planning

Course Learning Objectives

• Investigate the what, why, where, when and how we can capture our children’s learning through observation.
• We will discover what makes an assessment and how this can then be shared with our children’s families.
• Consider what constitutes outstanding continuous provision and how we can enhance this to scaffold our children’s interests.

In this training, we go back to basic foundations. We look at what, why, when and how we complete observations. We review the different types of observations and the benefits that these may have.

We consider what assessment actually is and whether we are creating a formative, or summative assessment.

We consider the question of whether we are documenting or discussing what we see, or whether we are just making assumptions.

We explore continuous provision and how we can enhance our provision to ensure that we are following cultural capital and the children’s current interests. This then scaffolds our planning for our children.
